“You must renew your domain name to retain exclusive rights to it on the web, and now is the time to transfer and renew your name from your current registrar to Internet Domain Name Services. Failure to renew your domain name by the expiration date may result in the loss of your online identity making it difficult for your customers and friends to locate you on the web.” – Internet Domain Name Services (iDNS)
A majority of people with a website have received a letter from iDNS stating they need to renew their website domain. If you have a website, you most certainly have a domain that needs to be renewed once a year. You may have hired an agency or you may have registered your domain name yourself. Either way, everyone with a website is at risk.
A company called iDNS (Internet Domain Name Services) has been sending a physical letter to physical addresses, saying that they need to renew their domain name or they will lose it. They use threatening language that states “if you don’t take action now, your business will lose their domain name.” They are trying to get people to overpay for their domain services in this letter and lock people into prices 4x the market rate. This letter is not a bill, it is a an “offer”. You do NOT have to pay this amount. As part of the “offer”, your domain is transferred to iDNS control. Often times contact information is changed, making it difficult to control ownership in the future.
